Our name is inspired by Alcuin of York, the 8th-century scholar and adviser whose work helped shape Europe’s intellectual foundations. Alcuin championed rigorous learning, interdisciplinary thinking, and the application of knowledge to leadership and governance. His legacy reflects a belief in scholarship as a force for better decision-making - a principle that underpins everything we do.

Alcuin was founded by two partners with complementary backgrounds. Edward comes from management consulting, with firsthand experience of how difficult it can be for organisations to access highly specialised expertise when it is most needed. Dominic is a published researcher with direct experience applying state-of-the-art academic innovation to real-world industry challenges.
